Ontario’s fall budget did not include an update on the future of property tax reassessment. For now, the valuation date for assessment remains as January 1, 2016.

RFRs are a mandatory first step for property owners of non-commercial and non-industrial properties, or properties with mixed tax classes. It is also a possible first step for commercial and industrial properties, as it may be beneficial under certain circumstances. The RFR is filed with the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation for review. After the results of the RFR are determined, the property owner continues to have a right to file an appeal to the ARB.
